Make A Wish!

It’s my birthday today. I have always loved this day, unlike some people who dread it like getting their teeth cleaned. This torment is mostly because of the whole “getting old” part. I mean, some people are so terrified, that they will even lie or quietly omit stating their actual age. But not me, I embrace the annual holiday.

I can remember even as a little girl, I enjoyed planning my party each year. This preparation would start weeks or even months before the big day. Then as my birthday arrived, I would be so excited I could barely sleep the night before. I once asked my mom why would she never plan a surprise party for me. My mom laughed and said, “You never give us the chance, you little party planner”.

That seemed so cool! You come home to find your friends holding cake and presents, hiding behind your living room furniture. They jump out and yell, “Happy Birthday!!” Confetti falls from the ceiling, and you scream. Then, out of shock, and a weak bladder, pee your pants and punch your best friend in the face.   Alright… so maybe that seems much more majestic in my head.

I will admit, as a kid my motive for hosting the most awesomest bash, was to get presents. The bigger the party, the bigger the gifts, it makes perfect sense. Then as I got into my 20’s, my health became a challenge, so every birthday celebrated one more year I was alive.

Now you might ask, “What will you wish for today when you blow out those birthday candles?” I wish that I may celebrate everyday that I am given, cherish those around me, never be afraid to fail, hold no regrets, laugh everyday and see aging as a gift that should be embrace. Not bad for someone who is celebrating the 7^th anniversary of her 30^th birthday. Wink.
